Well! Things have been happening so fast I don't even know how to keep up with my own news! On Saturday my cousin and I went walking around the city of Westminster and saw some more of the sights. It was FREEEEZING cold, and we bought a packet of steaming nuts on the side of the road while gazing up at the imposing sights of Big Ben and the buildings of Parliament. My goodness but those architects knew how to design beautiful things! But my favourite was Westminster Abbey itself. So white and beautifully sculpted with such intricate designs! But it started raining and we were feeling miserable in the cold so we didn't stay for long.
A highlight on that trip was visiting the
SOUTH AFRICAN SHOP!!!! Oh my goodness but how comforting to see Koffiehuis, Niknaks, Nelson Mandela smiling off mugs and PVM ENERGY BARS!!! YUM! We munched our way happily home. On Sunday the weather was absolutely beautiful - icy cold, but sunny, so we decided to go for a lovely walk all around the City of London to see St Paul's, Tower Bridge, the Globe, and other places. We planned a round trip (for those of you who know London) starting at St Pauls, walking across the Millennium Footbridge to the Globe Theatre, then up the South side of the Thames towards Tower Bridge, then over it to The Tower and back past St Paul's.
If I may say so, the most beautiful little building is the Globe theatre. It really looks like it just fell out of the 16th century, and is still sitting there looking dazedly around at the huge monstrosities on either side of it. It really is MOST cute - and strangely authentic. I am looking forward to seeing a show there!
We had lunch at the Thames pub - steaming hot pies and soup, which was delicious! Then of course, Tower Bridge, which is quite beautiful. I felt like a princess gazing up at it. I really have been an unashamed tourist! The Tower is also fantastic - but chilling when you think of all the horror through history that has happened there...and the way it is so hidden behind twisty, knobbled and withered trees, with just a peek here and there of the Tower itself...shudder! Deliciously eerie!
I went to church on Sunday night, and it was lovely, but I think I was too tired to really take it all in. It didn't really feel like home, which was a bit odd, as I was expecting it to be different, but I enjoyed meeting some nice people. On Monday I moved into my WONDERFUL house!! As soon as I get access to a digi I am going to take some pics of the VIEW from my windows and the JACUZZI bath tub! Hehe
OK...I'd better say something about my work. (Deep breath). Supply teaching is, well, horrible. Quite horrible. If you can think about how difficult it could possible be, well, then, it exceeds your expectations somewhat. Shame...cried my way home on the bus on Tuesday - poor guy next to me was quite perplexed! The second day was just as bad, but I managed to somehow distance myself from it all and not get too affected by it. I decided that I was never going to do it again, but after much time with God and the shoulders of my wonderful housemates, I am going to plod on, at least a few more days. I just keep thinking...money money money - AARGGHHH - money money...but it will be all right! You can keep me in your prayers.
SO...that's about it for the week - looking forward to cell tonight and maybe doing some walking about this afternoon. Have clocked at least 30 km of walking since being here! Blessings to all!
