Work at BBC

You know, I am so blessed. It seems every way I turn, the Lord is just looking after me and providing me with so many exciting opportunities. I am meeting so many wonderful, interesting people on my new job working for the Production Panel at the BBC. These couple of weeks I have been working on Holby City as a script secretary (i.e. I run about and give script drafts, amendments and so on to all the relevant producers, script editors, actors, costume, prosthetics...) it's cool! And a few months ago working at the BBC seemed like a pipe dream... (as did acting in a theatre, I might add!) So keep dreaming and trusting in Him - he is awesome!!

New, new new!

I went to Scotland for 4 days two weeks ago. The train-trip up was really stunning, all the way through Yorkshire, Northumberland and then all along the coast in Scotland till we arrived in Edinburgh. I loved seeing the sea, and the craggy cliffs and hills of Scotland. It is far wilder and murkier than England...I love it! I met my friend Pam at the Princes Gardens beneath the big cliffs of the Edinburgh castle, and all the old buildings of the centre of town. It is really really beautiful - the buildings all were topped with turrets, spires, chimneys and all sorts of prickly bits, but their walls are incredibly straight and tall, with a myriad of windows.

I caught some street theatre in the square - something I found to be really interesting in terms of the actual behind-the-scenes stuff, which I was lucky enough to be able to experience! Being me, I went up to them after the performances and asked lots of questions - it is a fascinating way of life. The whole festival atmosphere was absolutely amazing – I have never come across quite so many insane people in all my life…lots of actors, people playing music, flyers, acrobats and performers…wonderful! I visited some family up in Dundee, which was also stunning – a lovely trainride all along the wild Scottish coast – and on my last evening Pam and I just hung out in the main festival areas before going down to the White Hart Inn (where Wordsworth and others found inspiration) and writing a script over whisky!

As part of my holiday I also spent the weekend before in the countryside, very different to Scotland, yet just as beautiful. It was on the coast of North Devon, in a place called Woolacombe, near Barnstaple. The views were absolutely breathtaking – rolling fields and hedges, lots of purple flowers, and then the most divine little hamlets curling down on impossibly narrow roads to the coast. I had an awesome time there on a Christian Music Festival, with lots of urban, hip-hop and different worship bands from around the world. It was so much fun! I met quite a few people, and was really refreshed and encouraged by such a vibrant, musical atmosphere. We slept in tents in a cowfield somewhere nearby…and I woke up every morning to a view of the sea and the hills about the coast. It was lovely! Heart-rendingly beautiful, because I hadn't been out of London for ages! I realised how flat London is… It was also a good time for God to speak to me about my life in London, and just to refocus on the important things.

Now I am sitting in an office in the Elstree BBC centre, working as a script secretary for the production Holby City. It is quite a popular program here in London. The department is huge, as there is a whole floor dedicated to just the editors, story co-ordinators, draftsmen, production co-ordinators, editing directors…blah blah you get the picture. On quiet mornings I sneaked a peek onto the set where they were filming - reminded that this is what I really want to get involved in…making movies. It's really fun because even though I do the boring admin, still I get to meet interesting people and be inspired by what goes on around me in this department. Just a pity I actually think the show (and the script) is poor…hehe…but won't be telling them that! Especially not while working in the script department! East-Enders is also based here, and there is a lot of overlap in terms of staff. I feel the same about East-Enders.

So that's me for now…starting work on the show Oliver! on the 18th of September – which should be very exciting. I have a small acting role, as well as being the 'repeteter' (rehearsal pianist – very un-PC to call me that though!) I am also getting singing lessons to improve my voice, which is cool! A very good friend of mine from church, Dina (discipling me - VERY passionate about the Creative Arts), is a singer, so she has started teaching me. It's great, because I have a singing solo in the show, so have to brush up!

So...having lots of fun, amidst the hard times (yes, there have been - I just don't write about them)...God is just SO faithful and SO SO SO incredibly good to me. There have definitely been some crunches, but he is always there. How I love him! So awesome to see Pammy up in Scotland, and to be surrounded by so many great people here at home. I am blessed.
